The legend of this temple is been mentioned in Linga Puranam ( which is known as the one among the oldest puranas )
As per legend it says that Gandarvan has meditated hear for the divine peace.
Lord subramanya ( son of lord shiva ) has also worshipped this lingam hear.
As per legend it says that this temple belongs to saptha kanda teertham means there were 7 shivlangams which were worshipped by lord subramanya in this river, and 6 temples are still submerged inside the this river.
It seems that there were total 108 shiva temples around this river as per history.
You cannot see much atchitecture hear but the shiva lingam is very very powerful and mentioned as rudrakshnaratnam in Linga Puranam.
